In Qu\u00e9bec, the main resource for compensation of victims of criminal acts is the\u00a0Indemnisation des victimes d\u2019actes criminels<\/em>, or IVAC. The objective of this program is to support victims during their recovery, providing financial compensation if they are unable to work or reimbursing a portion of their medical or therapy expenses.<\/p>\n To be eligible for the IVAC program, the applicant must provide documentation proving that they were the victim of a criminal act and that they were injured. It is not necessary to have reported the crime to the police.<\/p>\n An application for benefits is filed with the Commission for labour standards, pay\u00a0equity\u00a0and occupational\u00a0health and safety\u00a0(Commission des normes, de l\u2019\u00e9quit\u00e9, de la sant\u00e9 et de la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 du travail<\/em>\u00a0– CNESST) if the criminal act occurred in the workplace.
