Territorial acknowledgement

We would like to honour the Land on which we hold our space, and the ancestors who were there before us. We acknowledge that the CALACS Chateauguay is located on unceded Indigenous ancestral territory. We recognize that the territory commonly known as Chateauguay is the result of colonial practices that took place in the past and continue to this day.

We are thankful for the earth and all it has to offer. We recognize the Kanienʼkehá꞉ka Nation of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy as the present guardians of the land and waters we mutually enjoy today. We recognize that their sacred relationship to the land has been greatly wounded and hindered by the history of colonization.

We also recognize the hundreds of First Nations, Inuit and Métis groups who have been and are the guardians of Turtle Island, commonly known as North America, from past to present.

We wish to recognize the history of the Indigenous peoples, including the history of colonization, as well as the impact of this history on the present, so that we can build the future together, in a decolonial perspective.
